The author would like to thank the Intel Compiler team, Paul Besl, and John McCalpin, the author of the STREAM Benchmark.
If Hyper-Threads are disabled: export KMP_AFFINITY=compact Our RAM benchmark hierarchy aims to provide a simple database that ranks the best memory kits based on pure performance. If Hyper-Threads are enabled: export KMP_AFFINITY=granularity=fine,compact,1,0. Of all the vector kernels, Triad is the most complex scenario and it is highly relevant to HPC. Effective speed is adjusted by current cost per GB to yield value for money. #RAM BENCHMARK SOFTWARE CODE#
This article provides instructions to compile and run the STREAM benchmark without any source code modifications and as such the performance results obtained would fall under the Standard category. We calculate effective RAM speed which measures performance for typical desktop users. The code needs to be based on the sample harness provided by the author in the STREAM webpage. This category explicitly allows assembly-language coded kernels. The Tuned category has been added to allow users or vendors to submit results based on modified source code. The kernels in the published link above “as is” are considered Standard. There are two categories created by the STREAM author for citing memory bandwidth score. The general rule for STREAM is that each array must be at least 4x the size of the sum of all the last-level caches used in the run, or 1 million elements, whichever is larger. STREAM is also a part of the HPC Challenge Benchmark suite. Its source code is freely available from STREAM: Sustainable Memory Bandwidth in High Performance Computers. The STREAM benchmark is a simple, synthetic benchmark designed to measure sustainable memory bandwidth (in MB/s) and a corresponding computation rate for four simple vector kernels: Copy, Scale, Add and Triad. It comes in both 32-bit and 64-bit downloads. This document demonstrates the best methods to obtain peak memory bandwidth performance on Intel® Xeon processors using the de facto industry standard benchmark for the measurement of computer memory bandwidth, STREAM.

Tests will appear in the main window when completed and after around half a minute, results will be available in text format or as an image. A nice feature with MaxxMEM2 is the ability to compare the results of the tests with other people online. Options are limited and include a simple function to run the program in LOW, NORMAL or HIGH priority mode.Īn essential tool for overclocked PCs, this took can be quite useful in identifying whether RAM is proving to be a bottleneck. The application utilizes SSE, MMX, scheduled threading and other techniques. The user interface of the utility is to-the-point and provides a quick way to test the speed of the installed memory on the system by reading, writing and copying. MaxxMEM2 is a freeware benchmark utility for PC systems that allows you to test several performance factors on your PC relating to RAM, Random Access Memory. Quick and effective way to test the copy, read and write speed of RAM with a latency score.
